2021 Vision!

How and Why to make a Vision Board.

What do you want out of 2021?

I’m not talking about the obvious no 😷 mask no 🦠 COVID-19!

I’m speaking to your goals. What do you want to see in your life in 2021? It is both biblical and scientific that what you think about most you become and bring about into your life.

Thoughts become things.

You get to decide what you think about therefore what you bring about into your life. A great tool to help this process is creating a vision board. A vision board is simply a visual representation of your goals.

In December I like to review the previous year and dream and pray about the coming year. There are different areas of life that will have different goals.

You can come up with your own categories or use those from Chaya Ben Shabbat with Digging Deeper For Success. In episode 28 of the Midlife Wife Podcast she talked about the eight lanes of life for your long term life vision.

The 8 lanes are:

Spiritual Life

Family Life

Professional Life

Personal Development

Financial Life

Social Life/Adventure

Community/Philanthropy

The first step is to decide what your goals are. Write them down unpack them think about what they look like. Pray. Meditate. Give this step a few days.

Next you need to find visual representations of your goals. You can find these in magazines or online. I like to search for images online and in the website Unsplash.

You can also use words that inspire you. Many people pick a word for the year. You can make these words look fun using websites and apps like Word Swag and Canva.

Finally assemble all of these images onto a poster board and place it where you will see it frequently. I also make a digital copy and print smaller versions to spread out throughout my home, office, car, anywhere I ago.

With 20 to 50 images you can create a movie and put music to it that gets you emotional. When you combine a goal with belief and feeling you increase your chances of reaching your goal!

The reason it is important to review your vision board daily if not multiple times a day is because what we think about we bring about. The reticular activating system or RAS is a bundle of nerves at our brain stem that filters out unnecessary information so the important stuff gets through. It’s the reason that when we get a new car we suddenly start seeing that car everywhere.

According to Tobias van Schneider on medium.com "Your RAS takes what you focus on and creates a filter for it. It then sifts through the data and presents only the pieces that are important to you. All of this happens without you noticing, of course. The RAS programs itself to work in your favor without you actively doing anything. In the same way it seeks information that validates your beliefs it filters the world through the parameters you give it, and your beliefs shape those parameters." Very cool stuff.

I can't wait to hear about your vision boards and movies. Please connect with me and share.

Love Ya,

Katie
